All of Enya's music has a spiritual quality, but this album is particularly metaphysical. From the strange, but beautiful, Loxian songs, to the one sung in Japanese, this album is infused with the other-worldly and the ethereal. In "Water Shows The Hidden Heart", the last song on the album, Mount Orison is mentioned. "Orison" means the act of attempting to communicate with a deity or spirit. Mount Orison does not actually exist on Earth, but it must surely exist in the world of the Loxians. A world of beauty and unbreakable love.
Roma Ryan, lyricist on the album, said that "The word Amarantine I have used in the song Flora’s secret. In that song the word was spelt a little differently. Then, it signified the colour purple and the eyes of a flower looking up to heavens." (Taken from A great unofficial Enya site.) Purple is my favourite colour, and as a spiritual person, rather than religious, I love that quality in all the songs on the album.
Some of the songs on the album are sung in a language known as "Loxian". This was created by Irish poet and lyricist, Roma Ryan especially for the album. It was later used again for songs on Enya's latest album, "Dark Sky Island".
